Wall Profile

Attempting to draw a main common wall from a federation house which has a few twists and turns. What's the best was to tackle this in ArchiCAD?

For modeling only, draw the profile as a complex profile used as a beam drawn across [not along] the wall direction.

Dwight, thanks for the suggestion.

I need this for both a 3D representation and 2D. Is there a way that I can "shape" the wall in a side elevation which will reflect the 3D rendering as well?

Dwight, I found a really good write up that perfectly explains what you suggested. I'll give this a try

Draw the wall as a standard wall, and use a Complex Profile wall perpendicular to it to cut away the shape above (Subtract with upwards extrusion) that you don't want. This way you can still add windows and doors to the original wall.

To further explain...

You would draw the shape you want to cut away (i.e. above the parapet) using a fill in the Complex Profile editor (Image below, more to follow). Then draw a wall using the CP in a direction perpendicular to your exterior wall. Position it appropriately. Use Solid Element Operation (under "Connect" in design menu) and set your original standard wall as the target, the Complex Profile wall as the Operator, and the operation set to "Subtraction with upwards extrusion". Click on Execute to perform the SEO.
Now you need to put the Operator (CP wall) on a layer that is turned OFF (I have a specific layer for Solid Element Operators) but do not delete it. If you delete the operator, you delete the work it does too.

Hope this makes sense.

Stuart,

Thanks SOooo much for explaining this in fine detail. Being a novice at ArchiCAD, I also watched a few YouTube walkthroughs on the complex profiler, but I'm still trying to get my head around

Never the less, I'm battling through trying to replicate current projects I'm working on in Revit 2013, as I would like to transition over to ArchiCAD hopefully soon.

Would you know of anyone whiling to run through the software on a one to one basis? I'm planning on purchasing Eric Bobrow's tutorials, but haven't had the chance to get around to it yet
