Will ArchiCAD work on the new OS coming out soon? ...

I'm becoming a mac user coming from a PC background but still like to have the PC around with ArchiCAD installed for many reasons. I'm kind of an "update when possible" kind of guy...so now to the point...

there is a new OS from microsoft about to come out before the month of november ends...it is called "Microsoft Vista" which is intended to be the sequel to Microsoft XP....Any ideas if ArchiCAD will be compatible? If so, which versions? If not, when? this goes for anybody at GS or anyone who knows. Thanks!

Like any new OS: Eventually, it will be compatible but expect bugs in the beginning.

One word of caution: There are rumblings about Vista's lower level products not working in virtual environments, so you might have to buy the more expensive versions of Vista if you want to run it on the Mac.

search the forum with the button at the top there. there are a couple of people who have pre-release public betas of vista and have posted findings. it would be crazy for graphisoft not to support vista . . . or rather, it would be crazy for microsoft to make incompatible all previously installed applications. mind you, mr jobs didn't give a damn

if you search the apple forums you will also see the experience of people running vista through boot camp/parallels on a mactel machine too . . .

ArchiCAD runs on Vista. When the Java installer launches, the AERO glass look was shut of.

I have tried it on Vista RC1 64-bit and the software works. Hardware acceleration was not working fine (but the nVidia beta-drivers for Vista RC1 64-bit in dual screen were not that stable to me).

The biggest limitation? The WIBU-key drivers for 64-bit are not released for Vista yet and Vista refused to install them (drivers not digitally signed). I had to fall back on my student version, to be able to run ArchiCAD.

I assume Vista 32-bit will present much less problems and once the final Vista release is gaining momentum, drivers will be available for most hardware.

And OSX Leopard? That is not released yet, so a bit early to call it the best OS in the world. I thought Windows 95 was the best 😉

Sounds Great! I appreciate the info.

Today WIBU released a new driver version (5.20) which they claim to fully support both 32-bit and 64-bit Vista. We have not tested it yet, but it should work fine with Archicad:

The MAC version of the new 5.20 driver solves a long-standing problem: It alows you now to run AC 9 in rosetta and AC 10 natively at the same time.
