Window Openings

Is there a way to actually put windows on a layer so that I can use a layer combination to show just an opening when I desire?

Hello Doug,
Windows and Doors can not be assigned a layer.
Some say they have the layer of the host wall.

Hello Doug,
One way I can think of to do what you want
is to break up your wall into pieces, some containing
the openings and some not. Assign the pieces
with openings to a different layer than the
ones that don't have openings then draw pieces
of wall with no openings in between the the
other pieces that don't have openings and
assign them a third layer. Set up two layer
combinations one showing the walls with
openings and one set of blank walls
and the other showing all the
pieces of blank wall. These alternate sets
of walls should clean up with each other
if they are drawn the same way.

Hi Peter,

I had a feeling that that was going to be the answer. It would be perfect if I didn't need to see the log walls. How about this. Can you think of a way to associate a layer combination with an empty opening for window. If so I could set it up so that I could have section elevations that show everything except the windows.

Hello Doug,
I have a feeling I'm missing something because
an obvious variant of what I suggested in my
last post is to make two identical walls on different layers
one with window openings and the other without.

My fault, I didn't refresh before I entered my last post. I'll get back to you, thanks. Doug

Doug:

If you want to see the openings without the doors and windows in 2D and/or 3D, go to Options > Display Options > Display Options..., under Options for Display and Output set the Doors & Windows to Hide on Plan or Reflected Ceiling, these settings can be saved as part of the View. These controls are more refined in ArchiCAD 10.
