Zoom Alt and Duplicate Alt conflict

Mac_the_arc

I get very frustrated that AC have both these commands using Alt. The number of times now I duplicate something, start to move it, find I need to zoom in to place the 'duplicated' object only to find that in zooming ive toggled off the duplicate. Sometimes I dont even notice this has happened. Other time I zoom, then pan and find ive duplicated something. Surely there must be a way to adjust settings to allow me to zoom or duplicate without having to rely on my memory or eyesight.

Personally, I use this setting with a Magic mouse, and depending on the OS, I install MagicPref or Middleclick to enable cropping and orbit mode in 3D by pressing the Shift key.
So there's no conflict with the Alt key.

I am guessing you may be a MAC user and don't have a mouse with a scroll wheel?

yes, and from that response I take it PC users dont have this issue.

If you have a mouse with a scroll wheel, that is all you need to zoom.

No need to even touch the keyboard.

Can you use a regular mouse with a MAC (I have no idea).

Is that the answer? Graphisoft have no solution to a Mac mouse, this seems incredible! To combine two functions like this is incredibly risky, it's a wonder no architectural practice has not taken Graphisoft to court. If I had a large practice and found that a key element of the drawings had been missed because the software combined two functions meaning the operator may think they are honestly copying/ duplicating an element to find they have not, and the contractor built to the drawings, id be considering legal action.
