creating stacked walls

KeesW
Advocate
I need a wall which comprises 270mm cavity brick upto about 1000, and 110mm stucco wall above it. It doesn't apply to all walls.

What is the easiest way to create this? (I can do it by creating storeys at the 1000mm mark but is seems very complicated to control this when other walls are different).

ArchiCad does not like stacking two or more types of walls within the same storey. (I understand that Revit has a stack wall tool which does exactly this without requiring work-arounds).

Kees:

As you have ArchiCAD 10, you should look at the Profile Manager to create the complex wall you described.

If the wall is curved, you can not use profile-walls in AC10 (perhaps in AC11...) The only solution is the Profiler Add-on in the goodies folder. You can create an object with it and cut it's ends with Solid element operation if required.

How's that? I've never had a problem with this, and I've used this technique often.

I have had success stacking walls in two ways;
reversing the direction and then dragging to align,
or
use the intersection settings in Layer Settings. I place the upper wall on a designated layer such as "Gable Walls" and set the intersection setting to a lower priority.

Yes. Layers below the floor plan cut plane (A-Wall-Prht) have a different intersection group than the ones being cut by the plane (A-Wall).

This is a great list for generating answers. I thought of it as soon as I posted my query - i.e. use complex profiles. However, I did not answer my own question because I wanted to see what other users did. I don't think that complex profiles profiles always work - someone already mentioned doing it with curved walls and there must be other circumstances where we have to use different methods.

Thank you all - so far!

I've had problems with openings within complex profile walls:

archicad-talk.graphisoft.com/viewtopic.php?t=14445&highlight=

and have reverted back to the use of "stacking walls" in these cases.
