[older version]i tried marque-ing only where i want it to cut but didn't work.
i want to cut here withsplit tool:

With the split tool - its limited this way. But as always, there are some other ways:

it's not problem with 2D but what about 3D?
actually, while using split tool, it makes us choose a distance. so... what is the point if it will cut infinitely in the end?
why we ara chose distance? it seems an addition a few lines code problem for archicad.

You could always use Subtract from Polygon from the Context menu...

Either cut a narrow slot and pull the edges back together or duplicate the shape and remove the unwanted part from each version.
