I'm new to this and I have this problem with all/most objects as their background is always visible making it impossible to work. I am using Archicad version 16.
What Am I doing wrong?

You need to check your model view options for display of minimum spaces.
Model View Options > Options for GDL Objects > Show Minimum Space
Model View Options > Options for GDL Objects > Show Minimum Space

The truth is that I have picked up a backup of the project from yesterday and I'm working on that but I will know where to check next time it happens.

Forgot to welcome you to the forum, Cyarch. Welcome!
It is helpful to include your OS, machine specs and AC version in your signature (part of your profile) because answers can sometimes vary based on these.

I just hope that I'll be able to solve the problems as they arise so as not to pester the forum too much.
