pan tool? (hand)

is there a way to use the pan tool other than moving the mouse down to the bottom of 2d or 3d window and clicking on it? Like a shortcut key to hold down or something?

There is no shortcut by default, but you can assign one using the Work Environment (Options menu).

The better option is to use the middle mouse button assuming your mouse has three buttons. If not, it's worth the investment even just for AC. You can zoom using the wheel and pan using the button. Giant improvement over the zoom and pan commands.
