question (possibly stupid) about merging lines / walls

I have a fairly rudimentary question about merging walls and lines, this is what i'm looking to do: say I have a line drawn, then rather than stretching that line I draw a new line from its end point to where I want the line to end now. This leaves two separate lines, which should really be one... how do I combine them? Can I do the same with walls? I know an obvious answer would be "why not just stretch the line or wall to begin with..." but thats not always possible, which is why i'm asking

cheers,
dan

Unifying (Tools>Unify) two lines creates a polyline. It behaves pretty much like a line does.

If you have two walls in a line, you can extend (Edit>Adjust)one wall and delete the other, but that is a lot of work.

Moreover ... the part that really is a lot of work: if there are windows/doors in each wall, then all of those windows/doors that are in the bit of wall to be deleted have to be inserted into the extended wall and lined up to the positions of the originals. A real pain. (And, if you had used the bits of walls in solid element operations, then you have even more work to duplicate.)

A working method for the windows/doors: shift-drag the to-be-deleted bit of wall perpendicularly away from it's alignment with the to-be-kept wall. Extend the to-be-kept wall, then eye-dropper each window or door in the to-be-deleted wall in turn and place in the extended wall, dragging and snapping to align with the original. Vertical re-positioning in section or 3D may be necessary. (E.g., one wall was continuous, the other a pony wall on top of a concrete wall and the 'unify' is because of a change in construction design... openings are relative to the base of the wall, not an absolute z.)

Unifying walls has been a long-time wish...

Thank you for understanding what I meant Karl Your method / work around is very helpful though, thanks a lot for the advice.. and I'll keep my fingers crossed for a unify wall tool
