Is there any method to mark or select an area on the floor plan and directly view that area when we switch to 3d.

Yes.
The marquee tool.
The thin marquee for a single storey (the one you place it on).
Or the thick marquee for all stories.

Place marquee in plan then right mouse click and choose "Show selection/marquee in 3D"

In addition to Barry's advice, you can select any items (for example with the Arrow Tool) and and choose "Show selection/marquee in 3D". The Marquee will cut elements, the Arrow will not.
