Layer Locking

Is there a way to have a "true" locking layer. Currently when a layer is locked it's elements can still be selected, but not edited. I would like to have the layer fully locked and unselectable. Any ideas?

You can lock the element independently (Tools>Lock), but it will still be selectable.

Have you thought about Ghosting the layer?

Geoff brings up a good point. Why have the objects selectable in either case? It sure would help in limiting errant selections, while still allowing snapping, if locked layers and locked objects couldn’t be selected.

This brings up another question, what is the advantage of being able to select something that is locked other than to view it's attributes or pick up the attributes for use on a new object?

Maybe the question is - what's the disadvantage? I'm curious - I've never had a problem with this before.

My memory may be wrong, but I believe selected and locked items can be copied to the clip-board. At times this has seemed like a good thing, but I could see where it might lead to problems.
