I am looking for advice on the best practices or recommendations on the best way to handle a renovation project that will be completed in three phases.
Project Context: Two-story, 100 year old+ residential single-family house. There are substantial renovations to happen in three separate stages and each phase will affect both floors and the envelope to some extent.
User context: I have been using Archicad since 2020, but consider myself an amateur. I can get things done, but not quickly and probably not efficiently. I only recently discovered Design Options and struggle with my comprehension of Renovation Filters. (That is not to say I'm resistant to educating myself, I would just prefer to begin that education with the tools best suited to my purpose.)
Previous phased projects have been created with separate Archicad files per phase, with previous phase work indicated as existing in subsequent phases.
I appreciate any input on how this might best be addressed. Tutorials and other helpful links are welcome. Bonus points if they are part of Graphisoft Learn.

Hi,
first of all try to understand how design option can help you.
As first step set all elements that will be not included in the renovation as design option they will have "main model".
Then you can start creating your design options for your first phase. You can model elements that need to be in the renovation and assign a design option to them.
At the same time you can use the renovation filter. Design option and renovation filter can work together without problem.
After you have finished your first phase. You can go further with a new design combination for the second one and so on....
How to organize your design option it really depends on your final goal, if you need to keep track of it or not.
When you duplicate a design option, you will duplicate all elements that are inside of it. For example if you have in your first phase wall that are new and now in the second phase you want it as exsisting elments, you can just duplicate the design option related to them and change the renovation filter.
I know that it's not to easy the first time, but don't worry just follow some good tutorial o webinar on design option and it's done 🙂

Matteo.
