Walls Intersecting -- Sometimes

I searched for this and couldn't find a similar question.

What is the problem with the walls in the right half of the graphic below? There are two composites with exactly the same materials, the only difference is that the two cores are different sizes. The wall are the same height, and are on the same layer.

I think the problem is that I have one-half of the vertical core intersecting with both halves of the horizontal core. But there still ought to be a better solution that the Patch tool -- which is all I can think of at the moment.

Do both of the composites have the two central sections checked as cores in the composite settings?

Yes. The dark red line you see in the middle is a skin that represents the wall rating. The core is the stud; 1/2 on one side, 1/2 on the other side.
