Can BimServer (TeamWork) be installed 'in the Cloud'?

Probably a ridiculous question.........

Needing to use TeamWork for the first time to collaborate with remote colleagues (hence the naive question), am I obliged to purchase a computer to host the BimServer software (I have the feeling that I do not want to host it on my MBP).......or can it be installed on my webspace at my ISP & function for us all 'remotely'?

ISP is Orange in France, if that makes any difference....

Be gentle with your relies, and try to stiffle the laughter !

Merry Xmas to you all....

Hello,

ISPs mainly have services for hosting web pages only.
Usually no possibilities to install software of your own
like Bimserver.
For that you need a virtual server (hosted by ISP),
which is more expensive - depending on the specs.
It is configurable and can run a bimserver.

However I think the best solution in your case is to
have a server of your own, for example a Mac mini.
It is much easier to setup and backup when you have the server at your
own premises.

See ArchiCAD wiki for setup.

Hope this helps.

Thank you, Juha.......most informative.

It is interesting that it is possible, via a virtual server. However, I agree with you: It is going to be much less of a headache to set it up on a MacMini.....just ordering one from the Apple Store.

Wishing you a prosperous & fulfilling New Year.

Kindest regards,

Patrice

Hello,

Yes it works fine on a virtual server. We used
such for a couple of years successfully. Even
tested by joke one hosted by Rackspace in Texas...
and we were in Helsinki Finland 🙂 It was a bit slow
but worked still.

Now we have a three years old Mac mini with
4 GB of memory for 20+ users. Operating system
is OSX 10.6.8 (not server version).

Hi all,
We tried BIM server on Microsoft virtual machines and it worked perfectly after appropriate settings.
BIM in the cloud has many good benefits for example available from anywhere, scalable.
