I've just received my C4D cd, and I live in Brazil. I realy didn't think it would come. Thanks a lot. First question: Can I update my 3D model, made in archicad, so a don't have to learm how to model in C4D? This works very good on Artlantis...
The best connection is with the new C4D 9 and the ArchiCAD-exchange plugin, but you can do this manually with a bit of effort:
- export from ArchiCAD as *.3ds. I advice to export using materials and not objects, since this limits the amount of objects to the amount of materials.
- load the model in C4D and work on it, adjust materials etc...
- group the model, so it sits in one parent object.
- adjust the ArchiCAD model and open this in C4D (it'll be a new file). Provided you didn't move or scale or rotate the ArchiCAD model in the original file, you can group, copy and paste in the first document.
- Then the manual work (only necessary if you tweaked the materials): one by one, delete the material icons from the new model (will take a minute or two), then remove unused materials from the material editor and then, one by one, assign the original materials to the new model (will take a minute or two). Now you can delete the original model and continue working on the new model.
- This way, you can keep the C4D materials, lights, camera's, additional objects and still update the geometry from ArchiCAD. It's manual, but it shouldn't take more then 5 minutes.
