You can try turning on all layers, then go to each Story, select the Lamp Tool and then Select All Lamps, just to confirm that there are no lamps anywhere in the project. I don't know what else could cause this.

Thanks David. That is what I did to make sure there were no Lamps in the project, so yeah I don't know what else it could be. But given the behaviour I think it must be a bug in the project.
I was hoping to get the images looking a bit better, but my boss is happy with them, so I will leave it at that.
