area light problem

hi. i have a problem with area light. I cant controll it at all no mater the setting that i give the result is almost the same, over burned surfaces near the light source. how can i create a small point light.

point light has the problem as some other lamps the one is a metalic celining lamp with cord (Icant remember its name)

-- a general light source at intensity 33 and falloff 2 is a good area enhancer. (LightWorks in ArchiCAD - page 51-57)

-- a large light cone down is used to illluminate an entire room (LightWorks in ArchiCAD - page 58-69)

-- a light that can approach a surface closely without glare is the Wall light indirect. (LightWorks in ArchiCAD - page 70-73)

-- also: the actual light fixture lamps have not all been updated to emanate soft light - use a light source inside a fixture and control them separately.
