I would like to suggest an improvement to the native Reflected Ceiling Plan workflow in Archicad.
I prefer to keep the basic model representation correct without relying on Graphic Overrides, duplicated 2D lines, special layers or other workarounds.
In the default Archicad approach, a Reflected Ceiling Plan can be created as a Floor Plan view with the Floor Plan Cut Plane positioned shortly below the ceiling level.
The problem is the representation of slabs used as ceilings or soffits.
For example:
- suspended ceiling slab elevation: +2.70 m
- normal floor plan cut plane: +1.10 m
- reflected ceiling plan cut plane: +2.40 m
In the normal floor plan, the slab is above the cut plane and should therefore appear as an overhead element, for example with a dashed contour.
In the reflected ceiling plan, the cut plane is positioned immediately below the ceiling, so the slab should appear as the primary ceiling element with a solid contour.
Ideally, Archicad should automatically determine the appropriate line type based on the slab's position relative to the active Floor Plan Cut Plane, similarly to how other model elements can distinguish between cut, uncut and overhead representation.
The expected behaviour would be:
- slab above the active Floor Plan Cut Plane → overhead line type
- slab below the active Floor Plan Cut Plane → uncut / solid line type
- slab intersected by the Floor Plan Cut Plane → cut line type
The same slab could therefore display correctly in both a normal floor plan and a reflected ceiling plan, purely based on the saved view settings.
At the moment, achieving this requires workarounds such as Graphic Overrides, manual properties, duplicated elements or story-specific settings.
I believe this would make the native Floor Plan based Reflected Ceiling Plan workflow much more consistent and BIM-oriented.
It would also improve the general consistency of Floor Plan representation for slabs, soffits, canopies and other horizontal model elements.
