Improvement on the Railing tool

Hi Graphisoft,

There is this limitation on the Railing tool where there can only be set to 2 handrails at maximum. What if I have more than 2 handrails? Additionally, the Rail End Curve functionality is only available for adjustment on the Toprail and Handrail components which it is missing for the normal Rail.

2 handrails and a top rail are usually enough?

Do you have an image where you need more?

You can add extra rails and you can offset them sideways if you want them as a bottom guard rail.

But these additional rails do not have the same end settings as the handrails simply because they are not hand rails.

Hi Barry, thank you for your reply. FYI, by referring to the image that I attached previously, I have 4 rails, the first one I set as Top Rail, the 2nd and 3rd rail I used Handrails instead of Rail as I need that End Setting to curve and continue my railing to the upper/lower floors. Then, the last rail is Rail, which does not have the End Setting Options and so I am asking whether can have more than 2 handrails function, to as a workaround for the case (although I know this is not the correct way). I understand that the rail is not function like handrails so it does not have the same end settings, but how can I make the turn to continue my handrail, as per my attached image which currently is being disconnected?

So you have a railing on the main flight we can see and just the handrails extend to the lower flight?

I assume those handrails are attached to a wall under that main flight?

Otherwise just continue the entire railing around and down the lower flight as well.

If the image is what you want, then that only needs to be a railing with a top handrail and 3 rials (not extra handrails at all).

Maybe something like this?

If that is what you want and you need help with the settings to get the correct connections, make another post in the modelling forum, as this is just a wish and not the place to discuss settings.

Hmm, somehow yes, but the rails now is not connecting continuously....

The rails still are continuous, it is just that I have set a zero offset for the gooseneck connection, so the vertical drop (as you can see in the top handrail) is actually hidden in the vertical post.

Because you are dropping 3 riser heights at that one point, the continuous rails are not really practical, and as they are not 'handrails' they don't need to be continuous.

They would all have to drop the same as the handrail above and then because of the height of the drop, they will all clash with each other.
