Maintain Wall Connections when Editing Wall Geometry

ananth_devan

When two or more walls intersect and are joined, the connection should remain associated when the geometry of one of the walls is then edited.

Currently, if the end of a wall is stretched, shortened or moved, the wall can become disconnected from previously intersecting wall(s). This means the connections need to be manually re-established after relatively simple geometry changes.

It would be highly useful if ArchiCAD could be smart enough to recognise and maintain these wall connections as relationships.
For example, if the end of a wall is moved, any walls that were previously connected to that end should automatically adjust and remain connected where possible.

This would make editing wall layouts much more robust, particularly in larger projects where many walls intersect, and reduce the need to repeatedly clean up and reconnect walls after design changes.

If you have all of the relevant walls selected, and more the end of a wall, the others will move as well.

If you need to move a wall tangentially, use the offset option and A selected walls that share end each node will stretch to accommodate the offset. This really should include ALL selected walls that share the end node...

You can also use the 2D Marquee to move EVERYTHING included within it's boundaries. The Quicklayers Palette is a convenient way to isolate the elements you are wishing to edit.

That is a useful workflow tip but is only a workaround at the moment which is being used.

This wish list is for ArchiCAD to be smart enough to incorporate this feature in future, like other programs to make it easier for the user.

The desired behaviour is for Archicad to recognise the existing wall connections and automatically maintain them, without requiring the user to first identify and select every wall sharing that node.

Perhaps what is called for is a Link Walls function, rather than changing the intersect tool.

Once walls are linked at an intersection, they remain connected until they are unlinked.

If you made it automatic, I think you would need to include a new dialogue which gives you the options to filter by layer, constuction, dimensions, status or selection.
