Has anyone experienced AC8.3 crashing when importing an AutoCAD drawing, while AC7.3 opens it just fine???

Thanks

If you are running AC 8.0 R3...
You should have received or should soon receive the AC8.1 upgrade.
AC8.1 should work (AC8.0.* had some bugs in the DWG import/export converter).

8.1 will have solved it.

However, every time that happened to me, the units were set wrongly - e.g. the DWG was in meters, and the Translator was in mm. Check the units - if the DWG comes in too small or too big, then the crash is probable.

8.1 crashes when opening a dwg. It is next to unusable
The same dwg opens in 7 with no problems

strange... I opened 6 dwg's in 8.1 with no problem. Guess it must be usable,

What translator settings are you using? The "Default" translator has a few things in it that I found were troublesome, like Djordje said, often with the units.

All what I have to say is that I newer had a problem with a DWG in 7 and I have plenty of crashes trying to open them in 8.1 Most of these drawings are created in ACAD2000 and yes the unit measure is all over the place but this should not be a problem as was not in 7.
At the moment I open all in 7 because that works.

Besides the units (you should set the same units in Translator before opening) also check where the origin is; if it is light years away, that also might be a problem.
