Soooo.... anybody have any ideas for dealing with this 3-legged stair issue? How are others resolving it?

Dear friends,

please find below, some info.

about Jay's issue:
I don't understand the problem... I mean, of course your requested stair shape is not available in the stair pre-defined typologies but is quite simple to get that result using fills.

About Sergio's issue:
I agree with you, you can get a correct 3D display of that stair (BTW the image I sent before to this same topic was made by ONE single stair object) but not a correct 2D visualization.
I will add the feature (only for the pre-defined stair type) to automatically add consecutive overlapping flights and fix the 2D visualization trouble for this particular case (particular but quite common!).

About Flute issue:
Look at the attached images.
These three new, fully parametric styles (I'm trying with some others) will be added to the next update.

Once again, this is the right time to post suggestion/request/advice...

So what you're saying is that there'll be a predefined 3-leg (or more) stair in ArchiStair? This sounds great!!!

This would be more of a commercial stair, and so the handrails would probably need slightly different extension parameters - don't think they're available now - haven't played with them enough? yet. Also, the landing widths may benefit it they could be individually adjustable.

On a semi-related note (along with the upgrade suggestions), the handrail show/no-show options could benefit from a revision (i.e.: show grab bar and/or handrail). Also somehow allow for an option of trimming the handrail if it runs into a wall, etc.

And another note, it appears that if you want to do a full U-shaped stair, the middle part of the stair (where the landing normally is) apparently needs to have 2 risers and there's no way to have just 1 riser or none at all should you want that option. The only work-around is to build a new stair with fills. Which also brings up another issue. When building with fills, would it be possible to somehow dictate the tread depths?

Just some half-baked ideas. Again, love the software.

Handrails: as I wrote before, the next major upgrade will provide full freedom about this issue.

"When building with fills, would it be possible to somehow dictate the tread depths?"

as you probably know, tread depths are calculated based on the fill side lenght and number of treads along it.

Otherwise you should simply add nodes along the fill side (the nodes position indicates the tread depth size) and insert the proper number of treads.
Unfortunatelly you cannot do this from the beginning: you should add the nodes after you create the fill otherwise ArchiCAD (I always complained about this issue that, at least, should be enabled/disabled by the user!) will regularize the aligned nodes by deleting the not necessary ones (who said they were not needed?).

What do you mean by fills ?

I guess I was asking if ArchiStair could be configured the way that I have shown, by using ony one Stair. At this time I have to create two separate stairs and add a intermediate landing.

If I save the GSM object that contains an Archistair, place the GSM in a another PLN file and view this GSM I get these Errors (see Attached Jpg).

Also, usually if I include a ArchiStair stair that has Handrails shown in 2D in a saved library object I get an error in the 3D window. I am now in the habit of making sure that the handrails are NOT set to be on in the 2D window before I include any Archistairs into a saved Object.

The ArchiCAD Fill tool used to create custom stair!!!
Look at page 56 of the user manual, chapter "Custom Stair".

Here there is an example of what you are trying to create...

"If I save the GSM object that contains an Archistair, place the GSM in a another PLN file and view this GSM I get these Errors "

There is no need to do something like this!!!
Simply copy the object and paste it in the other plan or save it as module file and merge it into the new file.

I never like asking a question that is in the manual. Thanks for the direction.

I favor a "printed" manual, but not knowing this is no excuse for me.

For those that are looking for the Users Manual for ArchiStair it can be found by first clicking on the bottom icon in the ArchiStair Palette, and then selecting the "Help" Button.

Fabrizio, Is there a way to purchase a printed copy of the manual? (I know I can print the 104 page PDF).
