I want to be able to easily figure out exact loads for concrete slabs using a dynamic data base, but honestly I'm not sure where to start.

You can assign all manner of data to all types of building elements using property objects. For more info search AC-talk and the WIKI, check out the manual and Eric Wilk wrote a book on the subject. It can be a rather complex process but with a narrow scope such as the element weight it shouldn't be too bad.
