FBX Import failed

I keep getting an error when I try to import/open/merge .fbx files. The error message does not say much, so it's a little difficult to troubleshoot.

The files that I'm trying to get into archicad are meshes from ReCap. Nothing extreme in filesize, max 25 MB. Some files work, others don't. And the ones that worked before sometimes don't work the next time...

Does anyone have a proven workflow for importing .fbx files?

Edit: all my files that I'm trying to import work without any problems in Rhino for example.

Operating system used: Windows

How many faces do said meshes have? Might AC be running out of memory while trying to convert them?

The largest one so far that I've tested had about 20 000 polygons. That's not small, but it doesn't sound that extreme.

At first I thought the problem was that the fbx models were far away from origin, because the original meshes from ReCap are in local coordinate system, but I get the same error even if I move everythng close to 0,0 in Rhino, export the .fbx from there and then try to import them into Archicad.

I guess I can use Grasshopper to export the Recap meshes into Archicad Morphs, but I would still want to know what the problem could be. If the original files are too complex or if the fbx import in Archicad is still not finetuned because it is relatively new function. So that I know which method to use next time.

Is it a version thing?

Is the FBX version too new for Archicad to handle?

What version of Archicad are you using?

I was trying it on Archicad 28 and the .fbx was exported from the latest ReCap. At the end I've managed to get everything into Archicad. I guess it was not working directly because of some broken geometry in the orifginal .fbx files.

I'm so good at fixing meshes in Rhino, so it was easiest for me just to explode everything in Rhino and import the exploded Rhino meshes into Archicad as Morphs via grasshopper. I guess then the broken geometries were just omitted, but obviously it was nothing important since I did't notice any difference. Then in Archicad I just joined these Morph polygons using Union command into one big Morph.
