Rendering Programs

Hello. I am new to this forum, and have a question. I have been using ArchiCad since June of 07, and with no training have pretty much become fluent in it. My problem is that my Boss has decided we need to do Photo Rendering. I have played with the Lightworks, but can not seem to get the lighting right. Arrrrrgh. Does anyone have any suggestions on:

a.) Training
b.) Other rendering programs / training.

I am positive my boss would send me to a seminar, but which program do you all think s best? Thank you.

Check out the Presentation / Rendering section of the forum, and take note of anything Dwight says...

... and buy his book / go to his seminar.

Thank you. I will keep an eye on that forum. Actually, dwight called me yesterday ( am I to feel honored?) and gave me some great ideas.
By the way, I noticed that I am a "guest". How do I become a member?

IMHO, it is a waste of time and money to spend much effort on Lightworks in ArchiCAD. (Sorry Dwight!) Particularly if your concern is getting lighting to appear reasonably well.

You will save immeasurable time using Artlantis Studio, paying off the modest cost rather quickly by having a real-time preview of your lighting changes as well as true radiosity. It can utilize as many processors as your computer has.

Artlantis is extremely easy to use, and works with ArchiCAD well. Other programs can do many more things than Artlantis, but many of their fancy effects do not readily apply to architecture and the learning curve is much longer, as is the speed of setting up renderings and animations.

The new release of Artlantis is being unveiled on January 16th in San Francisco. I think I read somewhere that anyone purchasing Artlantis Studio today gets the new release at no charge.

Cheers,
Karl

Actually, all new members are classified as 'guests' until they reach a certain posting threshold. 😉

In looking around the office today I found a copy of ArtLantis v. 4.5, and am playing with it right now. It does seem easy enough, but I have no training material, so it will be slow going at first. I tried saving one of my buildings as an .atl file, but it would not open in artlantis so I saved it as .3ds and it opened but was very dark. Any suggestions on training materials? By the way, thanks for all the feed back.
