!Restored: Importing DWG details

Hi
I have been playing around with importing dwg details. On the premise of not creating a config file for the occasional detail, I have come up with the following. Each has its pros and cons.

For all I must set scale to 1:1. then resize text. Dimensions I will replace with AC ones so not a problem. I also set display to hairlines. I use edit selection set to change layers and pens.

Perhaps someone has a better way?

1. Copy and paste: easy and have the option to put all directly on ArchiCAD layer so I do not bring in their [nasty] layers. Copy & Paste between 2 open Archicad layers easy on windows where one can easily have multiple copies of AC open. On mac must use BGAC or keep switching files.

2. Merge. Brings in their layers. I use lowercase for my layer names so it is relatively easy to see which ones to delete. Is there a way to merge putting all their layers on one of mine or default ArchiCAD layer?

3. XREF using OVERLAY: I then drag a copy change layers and pens etc. Big problem when unloading as it leaves a text line that references the unattached file. Handy, but does it print? And I can't find a way to get rid of this. It is on the default ArchiCAD layer and is seems to be irrevocably locked. If I accidently overlayed the wrong dwg am I really stuck with this in my file for eternity? I drag acopy as the original will disappear.

4. XREF using ATTACH and DETACH: Again with those nasty layers to get rid of. After draggin a copy and changing layers and pens I am at least not left with the reference line as in 3 above.

My conclusion is that it is easiest to do bring in dwgs in another file, changes pens and colors and then copy and paste or merge that (after deleting their layers) into my main file.

I looked through some of the recent posts on this topic. Does someone have a better solution?

Thank you.

Karl,

I very much agree. The 500x500 limit is ridiculous. It's not even possible to do a decent screen shot of most dialog boxes, let alone an ArchiCAD example. Thanks for following up on this one.

Here's Erika's image reduced to 500 x 347 pixels. Not too readable, and just not a useful number of pixels to express ourselves. Let's hope that this gets changed this week...
In fact unusable.

We all have the screens at at least 1280x1024; if we ran the old 640x480, 500x500 would be too much ... but that is decades ago, right?

Very odd. I can post Erika's image now, but I honestly could not do so before without getting an error message.

Back to normal it seems! 🙂
