Is there an easy way in Archicad to print off the Square Feet of roofing material (such as shingles)?

Easy, no-editing roof area accumulator:

1:select all roofs
2: Document>Schedules and Lists> Element Lists> Basic

Look for surface area - as for printing this unique number........

Yes. There is an easy way. Make a Schedule.

Something like this.

Import the attached file into your Scheme Settings. You can tweak it as needed.

This schedule works good. It's a good double-check for the other method suggested under Documents / Schedules and Lists.

In regards to the:

Document>Schedules and Lists> Element Lists> Basic

it lists Surface in 3 separate columns. Is this the top, bottom and sides? How do I know which is which?

I can imagine your confusion. Perpendicular roof edges will return the same top and bottom area. If you toe in the edges so that the areas differ, it reveals that the top surface is listed first, then the bottom.
