Revit and Archicad connectivity

I'm currently using ArchiCAD 27 on a mac. As of today I've been using the hotlink tool to import ifc files prepared from revit to merge into my model. I've never attempted to edit the elements in the ifc file. Usually the ifc files are from consultants and I just use it as an overlay. I'd like to have the ability to edit the elements being exported from revit in the ifc file. I understand that there is a add-on (IFC Model Exchange with Archicad for Revit) I can send to the consultants to help this process. I've read a couple topic pages and it seems like there some limitations on the exchange between revit and archicad, this is one of the topics. I've opened a an IFC file I received from a revit model and all elements are exploded. They have not been translated into components/assemblies. If someone is having success and wouldn't mind sharing the following that would be very helpful to my office and many others. Thank you

  • Export settings for Revit
  • IFC translator setting in Archicad
  • Best method of combining ifc file into an archicad model. open as ifc and then save as, import as hotlink, interoperability merge, or place external drawing?
  • any other things to note and prep for a clean revit to archicad exchange, that has editable revit elements

If you need to edit the imported IFC elements, but still keep that model separate from what you are doing, I would convert the incoming IFC model into an Archicad file, that you can then edit at will, and use as a module.

Djordje,

Ok, the problem I'm having right now is that the revit file I was provided that was exported as an IFC has exploded elements. For example the walls are made up of multiple surfaces (see image I posted of house), and not a single assemblie. I'm trying to obtain information of ways to keep elements as they were in Revit so I can edit them in Archicad as I would if they were originally created in Archicad. I can't do anything with an exploded wall made up of multiple surfaces, it should be one wall made of an assembly just as if I were using the wall tool in Archicad.

Might you have used the "Exact Geometry Import" option?

Hi Lingwisyer,

Could you elaborate? Where would I find that option, walk me through?
