Most often, you would want the reference line for exterior walls to be to the outside.

I'm eventually wanting to be able to do similiar calcs, but am just starting out with AC. At the moment, I'm wondering about how to setup my composites and how they relate to reference lines - which, as you point out, all become important for the calculation phase. I've not got around to learning and doing any calcs yet, but I'm trying to do the right thing with my model and practices, beforehand, so I don't trip up too much when I do.
If the Construction Method property is flipped, so the wall is on the opposite side of the wall, and then offset, so it get's placed back visually on the original "side" of the wall, will the reference line be actually on the opposite (ie wrong) side of the wall for calculations, compared to its visual "side".
If you're wondering, why would I flip and offset in the first place? A:So I only have to use one asymmetric composite, regardless of the side I want a particular skin on. I've got a question about whether this is a good idea or not, on
