Snow Leopard

Just received notification that Snow Leopard is out on Friday.

This will be my first mac OS upgrade and I am wondering what is involved? Do I order it, or wait a month or more? Any tips?

Will I have to upgrade other software?
Go ahead, laugh at the newbie to mac

Hi Marc
Woops i completely missed that thread.

yes very valid points about backup, i'll make sure to have a couple.
My past experience with Apple upgrades has been good, so lets hope this one goes smoothly as well!

I'm interested to see if the likes of the new grand central dispatch, speed up any existing programs (AC12) &/or whether AC13 will make proper use of it.

(So far, I've merged three topics titled "Snow Leopard" into this one... perhaps a sign that it is not obvious what forum the topic belongs in... Sort of fits here in ArchiCAD+, also fits under Other, sort of fits under Installation...)

installed 3 days ago. No probs and all seems to be snappier, AC12 runs ok. only disappointing 'feature' is no support for QT VR in QTX.

Dear Talkers,

We have finished testing and tweaking the Wibu-driver to make it compatible with Snow Leopard. Please read the compatibility notes here:

http://archicadwiki.com/SnowLeopard

As to questions concerning the new features introduced by the system: These do not primarily affect existing applications, they are just new foundations to build upon.

re QTVR no longer being supported. Why? Is there a replacement for QTVRs?

I've searched for Apple's rationale for removing QTVR support from QT X and have not found anything. QT 7 can still be run to support QTVR, and any user opening a VR in QT X will be prompted to install QT 7 if it is not on their system.

Apparently there is a Flash equivalent for panoramic VR's and VR objects. I found programs that say they will convert QTVR to Flash VR formats, but didn't try any of them.

I cannot imagine their business logic for dropping VR support...which in turn will mean that everyone with software that produces QTVR (ArchiCAD, Artlantis, etc) will eventually have to start producing Flash instead I suppose?

Strange.

The argument/apology making the rounds is that QX is to Q7 as iMovie 2008 was to iMovie HD and that the full implementation is/should be in the works.
