Is any one out there using AC models in a structural analysis package? If so, what software are you using. I have taken a look at ETABS and Axis VM. I really like the work flow and interface of Axis VM. It seems like it is almost related to AC in some way. It seems like Axis VM is mostly used in Europe. The code sets are all European. I am interested in hearing about anyones experience with integrating structural analysis into there CD pipeline. Thanks!

Mark, AxisVM is tightly integrated, but you are right - it is a Hungarian product, and is mostly catering to European codes. I am not aware of the details, but do know some structural engineers in Europe that swear by it.

I had bad experience with ETABS, in the sense that IFC model from Archicad, that is correct, is not read properly. For example, a hole in a slab does not go across, a curved egde is straighhtened, windows disappear, etc etc etc. Unusable.

There should be a good IFC connection with Tekla/XSteel, at a cost proportional or larger than the cost of Archicad license.

If you are interested in first hand experience with AxisVM, PM me and I will put you in touch with the users.

Risa-3D is what I am using, which with in weeks CIS/2 compatibility is going to be implemented, then IFC to CIS/2 or back is available on the web. I have been talking with Roger at RISA in with regard to Archicad; If you call them may be some thing will come out of it, their number is 800.332.7472. You can PM me if you would like to talk about it.
