I'm new to working with the IFC file everything is new to me.
i did some research online and discovered the few method to work around with IFC. i'm going to listed the method i used and list out the pros and cons.
Anyone and everyone please let me know if there is a better to way to deal with it.
Merge IFC - this is the first method i use to working with the ifc (which spell out in Archicad 15 user menu) which is great, i have no problem merging the file and all the elements is display in the right place.
The first issue i have is merging the ifc will bring in all the complex(or simple) 3D object into the archicad and slow down the file (depend how complicated your building are) and boosh up the file size which make us difficult to work when we working on tw.
The second issue is layer, you either merging with consultants layer (which most of them mean nothing to Architect) or you can merge them into a single layer. But than make us difficult to control the file as well. Because we want to have the flexibility to control consultants layer to show certain elements for certain drawings (for example structural).
The third issues is when you wanted to remove the ifc elements. you have to selected each layer to delete them. In tw file you even have to reserved it before you can delete.
The second method i used is open the ifc in new archicad and save as module file and imported into the master file. personally i prefer this method because it give us more control on consultants layer (i can deleted and change the layer name in module file) but the only issue i got here is for some reason it won't updated the module. Every times when there is a new file, i have to removed the module file and reimported again.
So here the two method i learn about working with IFC, can someone corrected my method or let me know maybe there is another better way i didn't know about?
Thank you
