transfering autocad files to archicad

Every time i try to transfer a file from autocad into archicad, it comes up with "Archicad supports max 27+ 3 characters" and i am unable to open them?

I have a massive amount of file exchange to do and it would have been great if i could have been able to transpose these files without having to change the file name

Kevin,
Have you tried renaming the file to a shorter name first?

Kevin,

Sorry, I didn't read the end of your post. I see you already know the solution but are just wondering why.

If you have a very large number of files that need to be renamed, it can obviously be very tedious, if they can be named in some sort of series or logical pattern however (eg: file1.dwg, file2.dwg, file3.dwg....) then you could use a mass file renaming utility, search http://www.download.com for something like this.

HTH,
Dan

Edit: possibly something like this: FileName Magic Pro , I havent personally used it, but it might be worth a shot.
