transferring project files from one pc to another ?

what's the process to transfer complete project files from one pc to another (not networked). if i simply transfer the .pln file to another pc via jump drive the project is shown with missing layers, levels, dimensions, etc. i'm assuming when you start a project you may need to set up a project library in the project file and copy this over with the .pln????? if so, how?

Save the project as an archive (PLA) via 'save as'...

I think saving it as a .PLA is usually the best method to use for certain instances, but not for a normal process. I wouldn't want to have to manage the new library that it creates, but rather the normal ones loaded.

First, there should be no "missing layers, levels, dims, etc." That kind of stuff isn't lost when a file is sent to another machine. references to library parts and placed images, drawings, Xrefs, etc., are.

I usually transfer the .PLN file (zipped), and the small project library (for custom items you make just for the project). Also, any files that are referenced, you'll need to make sure you transfer those too.

If the file is just for someone to use briefly and not be a part of the work flow or team, then I'd send an archive--although archives don't pack referenced files either.
