3D RCP and Lighting Symbols

I've created an RCP as a 3D document....but how do I get lighting to show up as symbols rather than 3D objects on my RCP for construction documents?  Is there a graphic override or something I can use?  Is it some sort of 2D/3D hybrid I need to create???

What workflow are you all using to create RCPs with lighting for CDs??

Hi @jd10003

You can create a new Model View Options combination for RCPs and check the Reflected Ceiling Plan option for Lighting and HVAC Floor Plan Symbol under Miscellaneous Setting for Library Parts.

The light fixture object must have its electrical 2D symbol as part of it. If it has been imported as a generic 3d geometry model, you may want to check out the free add-on Library Part Maker to do so.

Thank you Ricardo.

That's how I have it set currently.  But does that only apply to a floor plan view?  It doesn't seem to apply to the RCP when it's a 3D document.  The light fixture object shows as its symbol in my floor plan view, but not in a 3D RCP.  I'm using the Lamp tool, with the built-in objects.  I know the symbol exists, since I can get it to show in the floor plan.  Should I be building an RCP as a floor plan with different layer settings rather than a 3D document?  I have tons of different ceiling heights, vaults, beams, etc on different stories due to double height spaces.....so that's tough to do as a floor plan with layer settings.

I doubt any objects out there are scripted to show their 2D representation in 3D as you get a whole lot of issues regarding orientation and 3D line edge visibility... I think you will need to resort to overlaying a View that has your RCP symbols on them.

Hi @jd10003

As @Lingwisyer mentioned 👍 you could disable the light fixture objects in the 3d document view and create a regular floor plan view where only that layer is enabled with the correct MVO 2D symbol settings. Then you can overlay both in your layout. It is not the best way, but it could work as a walkaround. 😬

i think you can achieve what you want by editing the object and using the GLOB_VIEW_TYPE gdl command , GLOB_VIEW_TYPE = 6 ( 3d document )

I guess it could work if you only ever use use orientation for your 3D documents
