Amyuni PDF driver: Problem when printing fills - help....

Since switching to PM 9, I have had nothing but problems printing to pdf files. Specific problems:

- When using the Amyuni PDF converter that came with PM 9, the pdf files are enormous (8K for a single 11 x 17 page @ 300 DPI), and archicad fills are printing in a very strange manner. I have tried adjusting the display & output settings in PM without any results.

- When I use my Acrobat PDF writing (the one I have used for quite some time), the files print (at what appears to be normal file sizes), but the fills are still printing incorrectly, and all my plotmaker text is garbled.

Note that these problems occur both when trying to print directly from plotmaker and when using publisher.

An easy solution for me would be to simply go back to using PM 3.1 (I never had any trouble generating pdf files with earlier versions of PM), but since 9 is not backwards compatible with PM 3.1, I would have to re-create all the work I just put into a couple of new PM 9 projects.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have not tried this on the PC version of AC09 but in PM under publish you have the option of saving to PDF. In the Mac version it works fine.

Correction to my earlier post (it was 1:30AM local time...) - the page size the Amyuni pdf writer was generating is 8MB per page, this is creating enormous pdf files. I have this pdf problem both when creating them from PM or Archicad.

Also, the specific fill that is not printing correctly is the fill I use for my shadows in elevation - a 50% fill with one pen set to a light gray pen weight, the other to the "null", or 0 pen. Using the empty pen prevents lines in my elevations from being completely stamped out by my shadows.

Interestingly enough, I have just changed my shadow fills from 50% to a solid fill, and the pdf problem went away - has anyone seen this happen in PM and/orArchicad?

Thanks,

Don

I just had the same problem. I have always used solid fills with a light gray pen for shadows, but this time I used a "cut stone" fill for my exterior walls and the PDF file was a whopper!

I suspect the display was set to vectorial and the file was getting a bazillion little lines to draw. This would also be the case if you use the "screen" fills for shadows.

Hi Pete,

I did some research since my post and have determined that the problem is with the new Amyuni pdf driver and only when you try to print solid fills (bit-map) at less than 100% (I saw the problem with 25%, 50%, and 75% fills).

I located a post on the Graphisoft support site regarding the Amyuni driver and transparent fills (I assume that transparent means less than 100%) . I followed the instructions given (changing a key in the registry), but it did not fix the problem... I have Archicad 9.0 on a second computer, where I did not install the Amyuni driver - and my old pdf driver is working with 9.0 just fine.

I tried removing the amyuni driver, but my old pdf driver still had problems; I tried re-installing the amyuni driver, but the problem still existed. So it appears that the Amyuni driver is the culprit, and that it has somehow messed up all of my pdf drivers on my main system. So, the problem seems to be:

1) When using the Amyuni driver (I have Windows XP)

2) When printing solid fills of less than 100% (Archicad and Plotmaker)

i cannot get amyuni pdf to create a pdf from any program since my v9 install. i get a printer error message: printer failed when starting the document. i have run the installer as karl suggests from the v9 folder, still a no go. the only other change was xp sp2 a few weeks back.
any other ideas?

Sorry Tim,

Mine is working on XP SP2. Maybe delete it from the Printers dialog and try reinstall?

thanks pete! i have tried that a few times w/ no luck. there must be some setting buried in registry or prefs that is not totally uninstalling amyuni driver. there is no amyuni showing in the add / remove programs under control panel. no amyuni folder anywhere. is there a folder location? double clicking on the install.exe file in ac9 pdf converter file supposedly goes thru removing and reinstalling pdf printer and says it was successfull. the last line says "launch 'install-u' to uninstall". where would one launch this from?
would the adobe reader 6.0.2 conflict w/ amyuni driver?
i may have to install my old acrobat 4.0 so i can get back to printing pdfs.
