Joining polylines

How to i join polyline elements? Google says to select, then edit, then reshape - unify, but this doesn't do anything and the lines are still separate. Does this mean the lines are not quite touching or is there something else I've missed? Thanks in advance.

The ends must not be touching.

Works fine for me.

You should end up with one polyline after you do this (unless you have multiple lines joining at one end).

Whether you start with single lines or multiple polylines or even a mix of both.
