Plan View vs. Section View

Anonymous
Not applicable
Hey everyone,
I have been working with Archicad for only a few months now and this is my first post so please bear with me.

Here is what I would like to figure out.

1. In plan view I want to show 2x4, etc.. simply 3.5" wide with 2 lines and a shaded (50% fill) in between the two lines

2. In section/detail I would like the wall to show up with the 3.5" wall as above but in additon to this I would like drywall, sheathing, etc... to show up.

in plan we only dimension to framing while in section/detail views we want to show more detail.

Can anyone help me this??
thank you in advance.

Easy using 'Partial Structure Display' (PSD).

Set up your wall as a composite with the 2x4 50% fill marked as 'Core' and the gyp/sheathing/etc on either side of it marked as 'Finish'.

Save Views of your plans with the PSD set to 'Core Only'. Save Views of your sections with PSD set to 'Entire Structure'.

Cheers,
Karl

Karl,
thanks for your help! I kind of have it figured out. Problem now is, and this was an issue before with a composite wall, the "finish" shows up between 2 walls instead of the "core" elements meeting?

Also, one other question? Is there a way to make the (construction method -left, right, center) node/grip allign with the "core" as opposed to the outside finish material?

Any ideas about either of these?

thanks,
Greg

Fix this by changing the skin priorities within the Composite - higher priority overrides lower one, so have, say, 12 for your core and 8 for your finish. Try reading THIS THREAD for more detail.

Offset the reference line by the thickness of the finish in the wall settings. (Image below)

When using composites, remember to "enable skin priorities'.

Here's a funny one.
A copy cat of Cecelia's excellent example, (link provided by s2art).
Except can't get one (8-4)of the composites to play nice with others.
Red box around problem child area of image.
And yep, "Enable Skin Priorities" for all walls are on.
I've rebuilt the same composite wall, flipped it, rejoined, turned off
"Enable Skin Priorities" and turned them all back on again, changed the
4 to 1 in the problem composite, etc to no joy.
(Reference lines are all touching).
What could I be missing?

But of course a different skin fill with priority 4
does not connect, but shouldn't the previous
image I posted not allow the skin-4 to connect
even though they are both the same fill?
I must be misunderstanding something here.

ps
In both of my images, all the skins are set to
"finish" and all centers are set as "cores".

Also get the same type of thing in AC12 and now> (15 but no image posted).
(My previous two wall posts were done in 14).
Just like the previous walls image I posted, all wall's skin priorities are on.
Wall 1 only shows correct because skin 4 is a different fill.
In wall 3, is this a bug in 12 as well as 14, and now 15?
I must be missing something big time?
I know similar fills merge, but thought the skin priority overrode that.
