Plotmaker: links to file name?

Not applicable
I'm new to AC and Plotmaker, so maybe this is somewhere in the manual.

I did a Save As with my AC9 file to keep a record of it, and used the copy to draw plan check changes (for building permit).

Then I did a Save As with the related PM file. How does it know what file it is linked to? Does it look for the same AC file name? Can I change the name to link it to a new file? So far the new PM file does not link to my new AC file as I would like.

Also, if I rename an AC file, should I rename the BPN file similarly?

P.S. Is there a better way to do plan check revisions?

Thanks for any help.

You need to redirect the linked drawings to the new ArchiCAD file. In Navigator, go to drawing usage (pop-up at the top), select the drawings to be relinked, and click the link to button at the bottom. This assumes you are linked to the PLN. Drawings linked to external files (such as DWGs) must not be included in the selection or the "link to" will become "read from" and won't work.

You can, or you can delete it. ArchiCAD creates it automatically as a backup.

The only reason to make a copy of the ArchiCAD file is if you want to save the previous version for some reason. Another approach is to archive a copy of the file at each significant issue (SD, DD, Bid Set, Permit Set, CD, CCD), just keep using the original, and save the trouble of relinking. Whatever works for you.

Matthew,

Thanks very much for the clear (and fast!) reply. Now that you mention it, that is in the manual. That is just what I needed.

I'll have to look into archiving when I have some time. Sounds like a good approach.

Once again, thanks for your help.
