Plotting from a Mac

I am a single user with a Mac Power Book G4 and I have an HP500ps that I want to set up to plot to directly from plotmaker through the USB port. When I go to the "connection" option in the plot setup window, the only available option is TCP/IP. The "printer port" option is grayed out. Any insight would be appreciated.

Plotting is handled by Graphisoft drivers and may well not support USB. You should be able to print to the HP500ps via USB if you can download a suitable driver from HP or install from the CD (printing is done by the system, not by Graphisoft)

So if you can print to it you will be fine. The results will be similar with a couple of minor differences:

Printing is usually slower but better colour.
Your display options affect the output: especially true line weight & vector / bitmap hatch

I hope this helps

Hi,

Connect the Designjet 500PS to the Mac with an Ethernet crossover cable and use TCP/IP printing.

the ethernet crossover cable is a good idea. remember that the "port" should be set to "9100" in your plot setup tcp/ip settings (with the plotter's ip adress filled in of course...

it took me a while to find that info - I think the escribe archives from the old listserve solved it for me way back when...

Thanks for the great ideas. I think I can make that work. I'm on vacation now, but I'll try that when I get home. By the way, the printing worked well, but it was very slow. Thanks again --
