So, I get that ArchiCAD unfortunately has a system where you have to manually rebuild detail views for some reason (to appeal to AutoCAD types I'm assuming). There is some logic to that, but I just find it a little silly and bad workflow. Anyway...
However - when I go through and manually rebuild all my details (before I've started adding detail, annotations and so on) - [and yes, this takes a ridiculous amount of time having to open each view, right click and rebuild, over and over and over... but I digress] - The details that are based on a sectional view, do NOT update a change shown in the live, AUTO-REBUILD section, unless I open the section first, to 'refresh' the view.
I can reproduce this bug over and over. As soon as I just double click the live section (which I had not opened [or 'refreshed] since I made the change in another view, say - a surface change) the rebuild function will pick up the change. But unless I go through and open each individual section first, the rebuild function does not work, and erroneously appears to work unless you are paying good attention to it.
This is even more infuriating than having to rebuild each detail view manually, as I have to flick through every single section view too!
This is sapping precious time on my work that is completely nonsensical and should not be required.
Operating system used: Mac Intel-based 13 Ventura

in all of our projects, we've started to produce typical Door Threshold Details (ie. section through main entry swing door / sliding lunchroom door / roller door etc).
we used to have Source Detail markers in each section view which, as you've mentioned, have to rebuild the section first, then rebuild the detail. we've done away with the Source Detail Marker & have done all of these 1:5 details within the live Section view.
the Section Marker only cuts through the relevant door threshold as a live model, but then the 2D documentation is done to the side (5 meters away or something). any changes to the model will automatically show up & all that's needed is to turn on Trace Reference & overlay it against the 2D detail to the side then changes are made respectively. we then place linked markers all over the plans / other section views as required to show what type of Threshold Detail it's supposed to be.
it's a much cleaner workflow for us & it avoids having to deal with the horrible way that the Detail Marker works with the program where it explodes 3D BIM models into their simpler 2D non-BIM elements. true, we still use 2D documentation to the side, but we avoid having to deal with the exploded elements & the disappearance of linked labels / dimensions once the marker is updated.

Yes I suppose that's some sort of solution. I do the off to the side thing too within the detail (which seems to be the intended workflow - albeit nonsensical), but I'm at the point where I'm rebuilding my originals before starting the detailing or copying off the base to the side. The circular linked-markers method might work like you suggest however.
Your suggestion of 2D drawings off to the side within the section is interesting. I might give it a shot.
Don't the call-outs appear on the original section though? Or can you just turn that layer off if need be.
Then don't the markers for the call-outs show incorrect sheet data if the original detail drawings aren't placed on a sheet (I suppose you could place them off to the side in a non-printed area on a sheet as a way around this??) then use linked markers?

you can either have a layer for hidden Markers, or integrate the Source Markers & have it shown in plan and add linked Section Markers as required. you can do it that way. we've opted for hiding the Source Section Markers so we can have complete control of where we want to place the linked markers, as well as how big the linked markers will appear in plan. at some big scales (1:200), the source markers could have a gigantic head, but the leader line is tiny/barely visible. so we prefer to hide the source markers & add linked ones.
these Threshold Details are typical details -- meaning they will correspond to many parts of the building (whether it's in its original orientation or mirrored). there are no Detail Marker callouts in these Live Sections. it's literally just the Section Marker in plan view, cutting through the wall / door / slab / threshold, then the 2D details to the side, all in 1:5 scale. you'll see the details in 1:5 as well as the 3D wall/door/slab in 1:5. it doesn't matter that the 3D models might appear weird because they will never go in a layout -- just the 2D details to the side. (perhaps i misunderstood your question, apologies)

Yes I understand what you're doing in that you are in the 'live' section and then draw the detail off to the side with 2D elements only, cropping the view on the layout to only show the 2D drawings area of the live section. I'll give this a shot as this seems like a decent workaround to my ailments of the intended workflow.
