all text missing on plan layouts

I just opened a project from 4 years ago because the client has decided to move forward.  When I publish a pdf, all of the text on every layout is missing (other than text on the layout itself).  I need a fix for this, any ideas?

When we have this pdf problem, we just have to restart the computer.
