trying to place a manual dimension witness line in existing string and place it to center of an interior wall; wall has reference line at center of wall; stumped.

update > found that one way to do it is to place a hotpoint at the center of the wall plane and dim to it.
You could dimension to the end of the center line, or to an intersection of the centerline and another linear element, such as a wall. You need a point; the lines of the wall will give you both sides or the core, as I'm sure you already know. The hotspot isn't needed.

It appears Jeff is referring to placing a dimension at the center of the width of a wall, which can be accomplished as James said. I've always been disappointed that ArchiCAD cannot maintain an associated dimension to the midpoint of a wall's (or other element's) length. I would love to see the dimension tool recognize special snap points and maintain their relationship relative to changes in length. One of many needed dimension tool improvements.

if you click the hotspot at end of the reference line the dimension is associative (at least v10 it is)

A midpoint is one thing (and could be quite handy), but the center line of a wall is a complex problem. Is it the center from face to face of finish, the center of the core fill(s), or the center of the structural framing? With all of the different possible wall types this is not a simple problem to solve.

Generally I prefer (as do most I know) to dimension to face of framing. This value is typically the same as centerline dimensions (assuming the same size framing) and is how most (if not all) builders layout their walls.
