Tip of the Month: group and save reusable furniture sets as one favorite

Dear Community Members,

Building the same furniture arrangement, or group of objects across projects is a common need in everyday modeling work. This month’s tip highlights a free add-on shared by our community member @Allan_Fx, who built a solution to save entire groups of elements as a single, reusable Favorite.

Please note: This add-on was developed and shared by a Graphisoft Community member and is still being improved. For the latest version, updates, and video tutorial, please refer to the original forum post or the Portuguese-language discussion. Graphisoft does not develop, maintain, or provide support for this add-on.

Challenge

Teams often reuse the same furniture set, or fixture grouping across multiple layouts and projects, for example in a living room or kitchen design. Having a way to save that whole combination as one favorite, rather than placing each object individually, keeps the workflow faster and the results consistent from project to project.

Hotlinks are great for syncing larger, shared building elements across projects. This add-on offer a simpler, more flexible option when you want to place and adjust a self-contained group independently in each project.

Solution

@Allan_Fx built a free add-on called Favorite Groups that lets you select any set of objects and lamps in plan, save the whole selection as a single named favorite, and drop it back into any project as one unit.

Note: Works on Archicad 29 on Windows, with the latest update installed.

Step 1: Install the add-on

  1. Download the add-on from the Drive folder.
  2. Open the Options menu, go to Extension Manager, then Add.
  3. Select the downloaded .apx file for Favorite Groups.
  4. Restart Archicad. A new palette called RGM appears, giving access to the Favorite Groups tool.

Step 2: Save a group as a favorite

  1. In plan, select the set of objects and/or lamps you want to reuse (only Object and Lamp element types are currently supported; other element types in the selection are ignored).
  2. In the Favorite Groups palette, click New Favorite and give the group a clear name, for example “Living Room Set” or “Kitchen Island Lighting.”
  3. The group is now saved with everything intact, including geometry, size, parameters, classification, and properties, identical to the original.

Additional updates

The latest version also includes Labels in the saved group, preserving the original text box and leader lines. You can also export selected Favorites to a separate .TXT file, making it easier to share them with collaborators.

Step 3: Place and reuse the group

  1. Open the Favorite Groups palette. Search or browse for the saved favorite, then double-click to place it in the current plan.
  2. Drop the group with the option to rotate it 90 degrees before placing, and reposition it as a single unit.

Result

With Favorite Groups, you save a furniture set or lighting kit once and place it anywhere with a double-click.

@Allan_Fx also included a video tutorial in the Drive folder. The add-on was also shared on the Graphisoft Community in Portuguese, where you can find the Portuguese discussion. You can leave kudos to @Allan_Fx for building and sharing this with the community, and join the discussion in the original forum post.

Hope you enjoyed this tip and have it boost your productivity.
