I hate to keep harping on this but, after building a model for presentation I spend an enomous amount of time trying to coordinate the 3d model with the floor plans.

Doing it quick and dirty at the beginning makes you sweat later.
All 2D stuff has to be derived from the model. Not the other way around. It is the correct model that will create benefit. Always do it as precise and accurate as possible at that moment. Never cut corners - whatever may seem easy now will be paid for later.
Rethink your working method, my friend. Trust me, I NEVER have the problem you write about ...
