"Needs checking" in the drawing manager status column simply means that it hasn't worked out if the drawing has been modified or not. Possibly something in the model has been editted, but may or may not appear in that particular view. Clicking on the "Check status" button, 99% of the time it then changes to "modified" and therefore needs updating. Doesn't seem to be the sort of thing that should slow teamwork down.
