The links provided definitely throw light on the MySQL preformance issue. It seems MySQL on MacOSX puts more weight on data integrity than on speed, which the Linux version of MySQL does not. A good choice for a server, in my view. Especially the linked Apple/BeOS developer statement is interesting.
