Can't plot to HP DesignJet 500

I work in an office with 7 PCs running XP SP1 and AC8.1. One of the computers is acting as a server to which all the printers and plotter (HP DesignJet 500) are connected.
Problem is that I can't plot through PlotMaker, I can only print which doesn't give me the option to select the correct landscape/portrait direction of the roll... Do I need the ethernet card for the DJ500 it must be connected directly to the PC to be able to "plot", not "print"?

Thanks in advance.

Can the PC's plot? If not I would guess that you don't have the HPGL card installed. It is no longer standard equipment and without it you cannot plot.

If you do have it, you may need to get an ethernet hook-up. I don't think that a PC can act as a server to plot directly from a Mac. Or... you could always use PlotFlow.

marin,
i believe you need both the hpgl2 card to 'plot', as well as the jetdirect card to be able to access the 500 from osx machines. after that you will have a much improved hp500. there are a few threads here in this regard, here is one: http://archicad-talk.graphisoft.com/viewtopic.php?p=6086&highlight=#6086
good luck!
