Dear sirs,

Is it possible to open old archicad files - version 7.0, in Archicad 11 ?

Archicad 11 says: "cannot open old file format (7.0)"

That is correct. The message is not a joke.

Wise users keep their old Archicad license around in case they need to open an old file.

I believe V11 can go back to open a V8 project.

There may be an older version supplied on your V11 installation disks for this purpose.

Perhaps your reseller can help you.

ArchiCAD 10 can open ArchiCAD 7 files. If you do not have ArchiCAD 10, then you should contact your reseller about getting a copy, it will run under the dongle for ArchiCAD 11.

Hm, same Problem here but with an ArchiCad 6.5 File... This is ancient......

Can anyone help, no way I get a Licence for Archicad 6.5 (we worked on a project at a friend today, he has the old ArchiCad...)...

I have the Educational Licence for ArchiCad 11... no CD, I downloaded it from the Graphisoft directly...

The educational license has a separate file system from the commercial version to prevent unauthorized use. So you have two problems.

Oh no...... That´s bad...

Is there ANY chance to recover my work from this file...?... I have red something about Plot Plans from the ArchiCad 9 Version, that can be imported to the 11 Version... A 3ds Max File would be fine as well, I usually work with that and plan to continue the job with 3ds Max now...

I am a humble student who has no interest in stealing from Graphisoft, why does it has to be that complicated...?...

Under the Help menu, you'll find a PDF document called "02 AC 12 Getting Started.pdf". A similar file is in the 11 help menu / file structure.

See pages 23 through 48 for migrating projects from 9 upwards.

To migrate earlier projects, you have to first convert them to 9 or above:
http://www.archicadwiki.com/TechNotes/Conversion%20of%20old%20ArchiCAD%20project%20files%20into%20Ar...

If you don't have a CD with 9 on it, you'll have to contact your reseller for a download site or a means of getting a CD. If you are on an Intel Mac, I believe you will definitely need a download, unless you have a PPC Mac laying around. (With CD only, I believe you have to install on a PPC Mac and then copy the AC 9 application folder over to the Intel Mac since the installer will not run properly on the Intel Mac.)

Of course, if your old files were not saved in PLA form, then you probably also need the library used when it was created...

And, as Dwight said, if you are using the Educational version, you have lots more problems... It is not intended for real projects, nor student projects that span more than a version or two...

Oh, that sounds horrible......

In the End I only need the *.3ds Version of this Work... I have the Laptop of my friend who helped me creating it with ArchiCad 6.5, I was not able to export it in *.3ds Format... Only *.pln, *.dgw and *.mod...

It would be illegal to send the file to someone, so he / she could open and convert it to *.3ds...?...

I don´t have a Reseller, I downloaded the Version via Internet... Now I Downloaded ArchiCad 10, but the Licence is not the same as for ArchiCad 11... I cannot simply add my ArchiCad Serial from the 11 Version, he Program won´t accept it...

It is really a nightmare......

Someone on the forum will help you i am sure.
It will require Archicad 10 to open the 6.5 file.

Now I maganed to Open it with ArchiCad 10, but... I can´t open Commercial files on Edu Versions...^_^... it´s nuts...

The Project is very small and doesn´t justify the hassle... At all...
