How do I convert 2d dwg to 3d in AC10?

Hey Guys

New user question:

I have 2d .dwg elevation drawings , with accurate front, back, left side, and right side views. I need to know how to import them (correctly) into Archicad v.10 to view them in 3D, so that i can light, texture, and then add backgrounds.

Where to start?

Thanks

It is really easy, but it is really hard.

You must take Archicad's 3D tools like the wall, roof and slab tools and BUILT A MODEL of the design using those elevations as guides.

Then you'll be free to extract renderings of the elevations and other views of the building using the model as the basis.

It is easy enough to take plain drawings into Archicad, but if you are going to place color and shadow on them by eye without benefit of modeling, you'll be better off to stay in your existing drafting program.

Start with the"getting started" found under the "help" menu and under this website's Support menu - the Archicad Wiki and the Interactive Training Guides.

I see that your profile says that you are a texture artist. What is your overall assignment? Call me at 604 266 7322 if you want to discuss it.

Sorry Karl

Dwight was very helpful in our conversation but the fact is I have to learn.
In short, I am receiving 2D elevations (.dwg) from my architect and that is not what i need. I need to build out the models in Archicad in order to have a 3D Model. (makes sense) I had high hopes that i was just missing the easy button but no luck there. I need to create the 3D models based on the elevation drawings, OR get the architect to change to drawing in Archicad. (not sure what will be easier)...

I am not a veteran of the CAD community, I trying to "LEARN" how to create pretty pictures from 2D lines. I need a way to get those lines into cinema 4D for light, shade, trees, and sky (you know the fun stuff)

So... I will talk to my architect and see what my option are.

You'd be surprised at how few members actually have their PM notification activated and when a new member is in BIG trouble [as such an initial posting can only signal] he deserves a surefire response.
